Package: gnome-snapshot
Version: 48.0-1
Severity: wishlist
Dear Maintainer,
I'm doing some tests to get basic camera support with gnome-snapshot on mobile
devices that have their camera sensors supported right now in the kernel.
In order to get libcamera devices recognized by snapshot, licamera-ipa seems to
be required [1]. Could you please add it to the list of Recommends packages?
Probably a hard dependency would be too much, as snapshot would start even without
it, and maybe even work fine on some devices not relying on libcamera...
Thank you
Marco

Matthias, what do you think about also adding a Recommends:
libspa-0.2-libcamera ? Maybe libcamera-v4l2 too.
See https://launchpad.net/bugs/2102108

Hi,
I read above report but it's not really clear to me. libcamera-ipa makes
sense since linux mobile phones need it; but libspa-0.2-libcamera is, if
I understood correctly, only needed for some models enabling their
camera via libcamera ?
If that's the case, sure, let's recommend it.
best,
werdahias

I am very fuzzy on what the different packages of libcamera do. I
don't have a computer new enough to need it for my webcam. But yes, it
sounds like libspa-0.2-libcamera and libcamera-v4l2 may be needed for
some webcams to work in the Snapshot app.
Thank you,

Hi,
while continuing tests, now on a freshly installed system, I also recognized
pipewire-libcamera to be required for phones.
In my understanding, it
enables pipewire to recognize the camera managed by libcamera.
And pipewire-libcamera is a transitional package depending on the
libspa-0.2-libcamera Jeremy is pointing to.
Then +1 for that being a Recommends.
Thank you
Marco
