Package: wine
Version: 4.0~rc3-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
first of all: I'm not sure if it is debian problem or upstream problem (for
example incompatibility with compiler version used in debian build).
However now I'm reporting this on debian bugtracker not on upstream because
official deb from upstream works fine.
* What led up to the situation?
The problem reproduces everytime during loading WorldOfWarcraft game.
Emulated windows version, intel or amd gpu, and dx11 or dx12 in game params
doesn't matter.
Also there is similar problem with other game on Xubuntu 18.04.1
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108662
* What was the outcome of this action?
The game window is created but it is black and the terminal contains error
message
> 0009:err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 1760 bytes in thread 0009 eip
000000007bc9d9b9 esp 0000000000140f30 stack 0x140000-0x141000-0x240000
I tried alternative deb from
https://mirror.yandex.ru/opensuse/repositories/Emulators:/Wine:/Debian/Ubuntu_18.10_standard/amd64/wine-
devel-amd64_4.0~rc2~cosmic_amd64.deb and it has the same problem.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
The official build from wine project - https://dl.winehq.org/wine-
builds/debian/pool/main/wine-staging_4.0~rc1~stretch_amd64.deb
works fine. So, I expect that debian's build should work fine too.
Official build lacks dx12 support, but it doesn't seem to be related
- I copied some dll files from debian build over official and it gained both
dx11 and dx12 working fine.

This sounds very similar to this upstream bug:
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46291
It requires a patch to the vkd3d package. Could you test whether it helps?
Upstream's wine package most likely works since the world of warcraft
client will fallback to directx 11 if directx 12 is not available.
You could also try building the debian package without vkd3d. Pass
--without-vkd3d to configure in debian/rules.
Best wishes,
Mike
