Subject: [zotero-standalone] No longer works with firefox 54 update
Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2017 15:30:48 +0200
Package: zotero-standalone
Version: 4.0.29.16+dfsg-1
Severity: normal
--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Dear maintainer,
The stand alone version of the zotero no longer displays the contents
inside the collections after upgrading to firefox 54. When I run it from
the command line, what I get is
> xulrunner not found, trying firefox instead.
Which is probably why it's not running properly.
Thanks,
Kwang

Hello,
I just upgraded from firefox-esr to firefox and discovered that the
embedded version of zotero no longer works.
Upstream recommends installing the zotero connector and upgrading to
zotero-standalone.
https://www.zotero.org/blog/zotero-5-and-firefox-faq/
Upstream has released Zotero standalone 5, it would be nice for Debian
to upgrade to the new release.

This is currently discussed in #871502, and unfortunately updating the package
is not straightforward. Any help is welcome.

Package: zotero-standalone
Version: 4.0.29.16+dfsg-1
Followup-For: Bug #864827
Dear Maintainer,
This bug basically makes the package unusable. I understand that adapting the
packaging to the new structure of Zotero-5 will take some time, but in the mean
time, could someone add a page to the Debian wiki outlining how to install
Zotero-5 by hand on a Debian system (ideally in a way that will interact well
with a future fixed zotero-standalone Debian package)? [ A little script would
be even better. ]
Also, including some discussion about whether libreoffice-zotero-integration
can be kept as is and things like that. The Zotero site has some info, but it
doesn't take Debian's packaging into account, of course, and instead presumes
you want to install the package for a single non-admin user.

You are more than welcomed to do so. Everyone can contribute to the

Hello!
I don't know which wiki page you people are all refering to; I couldn't
find any myself, so I made one:
https://wiki.debian.org/Zotero
I hope that helps! :)

For the benefit of those of us less technically astute, what exactly
is preventing Zotero 5 from being packaged and loaded into unstable or
experimental?

The main reason is lack of manpower (a lot of work in the Javascript
packages need to happen first).

Please see the discussion in bug #871502.
If you are interested in adopting Zotero, please make your intentions
known relatively soon (by converting bug #907928 into an ITA, as
explained in the Developers Reference). I intend to request the removal
of Zotero from Debian in the near future if nobody is interested in
adopting it (note that it does not prevent somebody from reintroducing
it later).
