Please unblock package wine/1.8.7-2 (pre-approval, 1.8.7-1 is in experimental).
I ask to make an exception of the freeze policy for upstream's last and final update for their old stable release series 1.8. I know the change is huge, but I think it's worth it and risk-free:
This is an upstream bugfix/maintenance release, with very low regression risk (see below).
Although there are no critical issues which affect the whole Wine suite and must be fixed for Stretch, this release still fixes lots of issues for specific (Windows) applications. (If you are an user of such an application, the fix is critical for you.)
It further adds support for a few graphics cards (trivial) and updates some timezone data and translations.
The changes in debian/ are minimal (trivial update of a patch, and changelog update).
If you give a general ok, I'd upload 1.8.7-2 to unstable (debdiff attached). Besides 2 updated lines in appdata.xml (= updated changelog) it's identical to 1.8.7-1 in experimental.
Current changelog (a more detailed list of upstream changes and fixed bugs is right at the beginning of the debdiff):
wine (1.8.7-2) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium
* Update appstream data with 1.8.7 release information.
-- Jens Reyer <jre.winesim@gmail.com> Tue, 21 Mar 2017 16:09:57 +0100
wine (1.8.7-1) experimental; urgency=medium
* New upstream release 1.8.7, released Feb 28, 2017.
- Various bug fixes.
- A few more cards added to the GPU description table.
- Turkish translation updates.
* Refresh patches.

Wine is a quite large and active project, accordingly this update is too large to be presented in detail (debdiff is 218kb). Instead I want to give you a general overview:
Wine releases, release dates and status in Debian:
==================================================
Upstream oldstable:
1.8 (2015-12-19)
1.8.6 (2016-12-19, current src:wine/stretch)
1.8.7 (2017-02-28, *proposed* src:wine/stretch)
Upstream stable:
2.0 (2017-01-24, src:wine-development/stretch)
2.0.x (2017, will be in src:wine/buster)
Upstream development (biweekly releases):
2.4 (2017-03-17, src:wine-development/experimental)
Scope of Wine releases:
=======================
1.8.6..1.8.7: 61 commits in 2 months (~ 1 commit/day).
1.8..2.0: 6687 commits in 13 months (~17 commits/day).
Low regression risk:
====================
Upstream stresses the importance of no regressions in their stable releases. Since one still sneaked in 1.8.5, and since this is the final 1.8.x release, they made their policy even more conservative.
Currently there are no known new regressions, neither upstream nor in Debian.
Sorry for this long mail and the huge debdiff!

Should I go ahead and upload -2 to unstable (as usually advised)?
I want to make it easy for you, but at the same time don't want to
upload to unstable if the unblock is unlikely to happen. (And I'd like
to continue with buster/ubuntu work in experimental.)
So it would help a lot to know if you tend to ack or nack this (but I'm
not asking for your final decision now).

Thanks a lot for your work, and sorry for starting to nag about this (I
barely dare to send this mail). Also sorry for the previous non-wrapped
mail.

I uploaded wine/1.8.7-2 to unstable yesterday.
It is now built on all relevant architectures.
Thanks again!
