Subject: sawfish: Annoying error message "File error: No such file or directory, gnome"
Date: Mon, 16 Jan 2017 15:32:03 -0500
Package: sawfish
Version: 1:1.11.90-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I get this error message every time I log in Sawfish:
"Error:
(Click to dismiss. Also printed to stderr)
File error: No such file or directory, gnome".

It's really annoying having to click in the pop-up window on each new log in.
That's why I have set the bug severity to 'important'.

Regards, Awtul

Yes, it is annoying. I will talk with the upstream about it, to find a
solution and a workaround.

Kind regards

I'm glad to see sawfish is in Debian again!

About this annoying message, here's a workaround for the sawfish user:

  1. cd ~/.sawfish/lisp (create directory first, if necessary)
  2. ln -s /usr/share/sawfish/lisp/sawfish/wm/integration/gnome.jlc

The mantainer should create a similar symlink from /usr/share/sawfish/lisp to
solve this bug.

The root cause is that /etc/X11/sawfish/site-init.d/00debian.jl is
attempting to load using

 (require 'gnome)

and /usr/share/sawfish/lisp/gnome.jl does not exist. Instead

 /usr/share/sawfish/lisp/gnome-int.jl

exists, a symlink pointing to

 sawfish/wm/integration/gnome.jl

The package maintainer can either update the symlink name to be
consistent, or update the 00debian.jl file to use

 (require 'gnome-int)

After fixing the link the next error complains about debian-menu
missing.
This indeed vanishes if the package menu gets installed.

So if sawfish treats that missing dependency as error, it should be
required instead of suggested.

This bug is still present, still with the same error.
