The Raspberry Pi 3 uses arm64 but comes with a custom bootloader, so
there is no need for UEFI.

Please consider merging the attached patch. Thank you!

Without this patch, my vmdebootstrap invocation fails with the error
message “ERROR: Only UEFI is supported on arm64”.

Note that we have switched to vmdb2 for the Raspberry Pi 3 images, so this
bug is no longer a blocker for us (it might still be good to fix, though).

Yes. Please don't. Please spend that effort switching away from
vmdebootstrap.

Jonas also pointed out that vmdb2 is in Debian now. Nevertheless having
it fixed would be nice for other use cases as well like imx8 based
boards that use uboot.

Debian has no shortage of image building tools. We even had a talk at
the 2015 Debconf about this. Back then we had 11 tools. Now we have at
least two more: vmdb2 and debos. I don't have a complete list, but
it'd be nice if someone collected one on wiki.debian.org.

I am clearly biased towards vmdb2, having written it. I won't say it's
the best one, not having used most of the others, so any such claim by
me would be pure hubris, supported only by my enormous ego. I'm often
stupid, but not that stupid.

Since maintainers changed: Ian, Steve any objections for an NMU.
I still have vmdeboostrap in active use here so would be willing
to help maintain it as well.

I'm not sure we want to do a python3 conversion though.
