Source: asciidoc
Version: 8.6.9-3
Severity: important
Tags: stretch sid
User: debian-qa@lists.debian.org
Usertags: qa-ftbfs-20160720 qa-ftbfs qa-indep
Justification: FTBFS on amd64
Hi,
During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64. This rebuild was done by building only the architecture-independent
packages. At the same time, a normal build succeeded, which points the
problem specifically to build-indep/binary-indep targets.
If all the arch-independent packages are dummy transitional packages
released with jessie, the easy fix is to drop them now. If not, debian/rules
should be modified so that the build-indep and binary-indep target generates
the architecture independent packages (and only those).
After checking that both "dpkg-buildpackage -A" and "dpkg-buildpackage -B" work
properly, this package will be suitable to be uploaded in source-only form if
you wish.
I file this bug as severity: important, but Santiago Vila, who led this
effort (kudos to him), got approval from the release team to consider those
bugs RC for stretch. The severity will be increased to 'serious' shortly.
See #830997 for details.

Hi Lucas, Santiago,
Sorry I just noticed this bug.
Thanks Santiago, I tested and added your patch to the git repository.
As I don't have upload rights in Debian, Alexander Wirt will have a
look when he has some time.
There are a lot of changes since the last release in 2014, so it might
take some time to be pushed.
Thanks for your help,
Joseph

Hi,
what's the status of this upload? If you need a sponsor, I could
probably help out.
With the freeze approaching, it would be good to fix this RC bug.
Unfortunately, I could not find the git repo you've mentioned in the
previous mail, it seems to have gone from alioth.
Regards,
Tobias

Hi Tobias,
Currently the permissions on the pkg-asciidoc group in alioth seems
pretty tight.
Last time I asked Alexander about the fact that the anonscm were not
available he checked and wasn't able to figure out why.
Only Fredrik Steen and Alexander Wirt have admin access and I'm the
only other member.
I've not been able to get in touch with them in a while. Maybe you'll
have more luck.
Maybe we should have this package moved to collab-maint or python
maintainers team to make the collaborative maintenance easier.
What do you think?
Joseph

Hi Joseph,
maybe collab-maint would be best, but it's your call. Do you still have
the git repository locally available? If so, we could import the history
into collab-maint.

You two already were admins.
I also fixed the repo permissions (which could have been done by every admin
too).

Hi Alexander,
yes, Joseph and I were given the admin role just a few hours before you
tried to do this, Fredrik did that.
However, there's a misunderstanding: I don't want to be admin of this
project, as I don't use and know the package. I'm just in the loop
because I've asked about bug #831965 -- it's RC and has a trivial fix,
so I wondered what's the status of a new upload is.
I'd be happy to sponsor Joseph's upload, but there are many changes to
the package, including a split into more binary packages, so I think it
might be best if either you or Fredrik could do the upload, because
you're familiar with the package.
Anyway, thanks for your prompt answer!
Regards,
Tobias

Hi all,
just another gentle reminder ... If you don't upload a fixed package in
the next couple of days, I'm afraid it won't be released with Stretch.
Regarding the rather high popcon, that would be a pity.

I am currently very very busy and won't have time to review a complete
repackaging. Given that asciidoc is somewhat obsolete and even upstream
says it is replaced by asciidoctor I am also not very keen on investing my
little spare time.
sorry

I can sponsor the package but given that Alexander is no longer
interested, I guess he has no reason to oppose a switch to "3.0 (quilt)"
and drop dpatch.
Once you have done that, I'm willing to review and upload your package.

Most of my package are on 3.0 (quilt) too.

Just that patch to sort out this severity serious bug. I'm not sure
what else is in git, etc. If you need a sponsor for those changes, I
could take a look though.

I'll try to push the change about getting rid of dpatch tonight. I'll
let you know when it's done.

Thanks, 2 pairs of eyes are better than 1! ;)
I'll let you know when the migration to 3.0 (quilt) is pushed to git
so the review is ready.

I reviewed your git commits and I found that I often have changes
unrelated to what you describe in your git commit. This makes reviewing
really painful. If you have to reformat some files (to align columns, to
better wrap, etc.) please do it in a separate commit.
Here when I review 7a7b6fa57981a1ff081c5ec0579ce65191162c82 I don't want
to see so many changes on debian/asciidoc.install. I want only the vim
line dropped and see it added in the new package.
Now reviewing the split (c93478fd9be3ad2f9841df973eb7b09d312bd699) I did
not check in details the files repartition but I noticed this:
* epubcheck is in suggests everywhere but I guess it's not usefull for all
backends, it probably makes sense only in asciidoc-base.
* source-highlight is also mentionned everywhere but since ascidoc-base is
required, it's enough to be on that package.
* When you split packages in a fine-grained level, you should move the
optional "Recommends" into a required "Depends". asciidoc-fop without
fop doesn't make sense, thus fop and docbook-utils should be Depends
and not Recommends. Same with "dblatex" and docbook-utils in
asciidoc-dblatex.
Looking at your clean target in debian/rules, you can replace it entirely
with a "debian/clean" file (that said I wonder why some of those "rm" are
there, what creates debian/asciidoc.1.xml, etc?).
Last detail, lintian reports this informational tag (on all binary packages):
I: asciidoc-fop: debian-news-entry-uses-asterisk
N:
N: The latest entry in NEWS.Debian appears to use asterisks to present
N: changes in a bulleted list, similar to the normal changelog syntax.
N: The Debian Developer's Reference recommends using regular paragraphs
N: in NEWS.Debian rather than a bulleted list.
N:
N: Refer to Debian Developer's Reference section 6.3.4 (Supplementing
N: changelogs with NEWS.Debian files) for details.
N:
N: Severity: wishlist, Certainty: possible
N:
N: Check: changelog-file, Type: binary
N:
Can you clean up those little details quickly?
How long have you been using your updated packages already?
Cheers,

Sorry about that. I'm not able to split that commit as I can't push
with --force, so is it ok for this time? I'll try to be more careful
in the future.

Well, epubcheck makes sense on the packages that can actually generate
epubs which are asciidoc-dblatex and asciidoc-fop. I'll remove it from
asciidoc as it depends on asciidoc-dblatex. I don't think it needs to
be on asciidoc-base as it is not able to generate any epub format
without fop or dblatex.

Right. Sorry for that. removing it from everywhere else than asciidoc-base.

Good point. Changed that.
I left xmlto in the recommends as you can generate man pages without
xmlto if you use -L / --no-xmllint (This package brings dblatex, so
sometimes you just want to have a way to have asciidoc without it).
The add of this package to recommends was discussed in #692274.

Moved them to a debian/clean file.
Those file are created by the call to a2x -f manpage calls from the
Makefile(.in) if I recall correctly.

Done.
I also got rid of the following other lintian info messages:
vcs-field-not-canonical, vcs-field-uses-insecure-uri and
duplicate-short-description.
> How long have you been using your updated packages already?
I used the -base version for about 8 months and then I reinstalled my
computer so I took the package from the distro.
I pushed the changing to the git repo and to mentors.

Sure, I was just pointing out what to avoid in the future.

Good. Note that for Vcs-Browser the canonical URL starts
with /cgit/ and not /git/ (but it works due some automatic redirection
setup by Alioth admins).

Yes, I think you went too far by marking files licensed under GPL version
1 only.
Thorsten asked to add the GFDL and the MIT license to appropriate files,
he did not ask to mark files under GPL v1 only. And I doubt that the
author intended to put files under GPL v1 only when the global license
states GPL-2+.
Furthermore your "GPL" license entry has a pointer to
"/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2" instead of
"/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL" (if you really want to keep that
reference to GPL v1 only).
Cheers,

.
[ Joseph Herlant ]
* Adding lintian override about dpatch.

* Splitting to new vim-asciidoc package (Closes: #729242)
* Adding epubcheck to the suggests of asciidoc (Closes: #753561)
* Adding upquote package to default dblatex sty file (Closes: #752455)
* Moving prerm, postrm and postinst to maintscript
upgrading to debhelper 9 and updating version number
in asciidoc.maintscript for the files to be removed (Closes: #762003)
* asciidoc split into several smaller packages.
The asciidoc package has been split into
several other packages to bring more flexibility
and to lower the dependencies for people using
only man pages and/or html files generation.
The asciidoc binary package is now a meta package
that brings asciidoc-dblatex and others packages
to keep the current behavior. (Closes: #692274, #637006)
* Updating adding_testasciidoc_manpage patch
to latest version proposed in upstream pull request.
.
[ Alexander Wirt ]
* Don't add footer to generated documentation, that makes the build
reproducible. (Closes: #777177)
.
[ Joseph Herlant ]
* Update changelog to reflect all the changes happened since last release
* Add missing build-indep target.
Thanks to Santiago Vila (Closes: #831965)
* Update changelog
* Migrating from dpatch to 3.0 (quilt)
