Package: release.debian.org
Severity: important
This bug should really be reported to the Debian Stretch dev team, this bug was
not patched until after the Jessie release which has the bug. I could not find
an available option for the current Debian testing version in Reportbug, so I
am posting this here.
Back in Jessie there was an issue with XFWM4 and LightDM-GTK-Greeter where when
the XFWM4 Compositor setting was set to true. When logging in from LightDM
there is a few seconds of grey background before the desktop background
appears, it would be great to see this as a seamless transition once again.
This bug has continued on in Stretch running:
lightdm-gtk-greeter_2.0.1-2_i386
xfwm4_4.12.3-2_i386
I am not aware of the state of this bug in x64 Debian when running the relative
x64 packages.
Patches have been released for both above mentioned packages:
- xfwm4 > -DMONITOR_ROOT_PIXMAP patch
- lightdm-gtk-greeter > xsetroot patch
I have been looking into the issue here:

There's no such thing as "the Debian Stretch dev team" - releases are
developed by the Project, not a particular team - nor does one report
bugs against releases. Bugs exist in and are reported against packages.
I'm reassigning this to one of the packages you mentioned, and quoting
the original message in full for their benefit.

Have those patches been included upstream? Can you point us to specific
commits?

Hi Yves,
Not sure you got my last reply. By upstream do you mean patched
released packages?
If so I am aware that the package has been updated in Xubuntu 16.04,
this is a link to the related issue on Xfce4 Forum:
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=10859
Patch log for Xfwm4 in the change logs here:
Xfwm4
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/x/xfwm4/xfwm4_4.12
.3-1ubuntu2/changelog
I could not find a patch entry for the LightDM-gtk-greeter package.
Hoping this is what you need.

Unfortunately those links are not exploitable. It's random mess of people
saying “me too” here and there, which I don't have time to review.
If you want something to be fixed, please provide a simple, unique link, for
each issue, pointing to a tested patch, preferably vetted by upstream.

This is my last attempt: pointing to a messy bug report is *not* what I meant.
You keep posting this link, but it's useless for me.
I'll repeat what I said in the previous bug: point me to a single patch,
preferably vetted by upstream or at least tested and regression-free.
Also, the problem seems to lie in two package, so I'd need clear information
on the two packages.
Right now I just have “it doesn't work”, and a link to another bug full of “it
doesn't work” and “please try this or that”. Definitely not usable.

Yves,
The lightdm-gtk-greeter patch is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfwm4/+bug/1232804/+attachment/3899352/+files
/xsetroot.patch
Not sure if this is of any use to you.
The Xfwm unified commit here:
https://github.com/ali1234/xfwm4/commit/b7baa7aa60cdb80759e0872d0ab5a7cb
59ec5c10
The above link was from the xfwm4 email here:
https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-dev/2013-November/030529.html
If none of that helps I am really at a loss here, and maybe that
the Xubuntu package of xfwm was the only package that applied the fix.
Sorry to waste your time.
