There is no annoing popup after boot any more. ( thanks for that, dear
debian package maintainers ! ).
However when one unlocks the screen, a message "This version is very
old, please upgrade" is still displayed.
On top when entering the related configuration-GUI from the xfce
start-menu, there is another popup:
Warning:
This version of xscreensaver is VERY OLD!
Please upgrade!
http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/
(If this is the latest version that your distro ships, then your distro
is doing you a disservice. Build from source.)
Same for gnome / kde / etc. ?
These notifications are not as annoying as the popup after boot, however
they still damage the debian reputation:
- It is no good idea to encourage users to install software from 3rd
party sources, like jwz.org
- VERY OLD is true for each debain-release after a while, VERY STABLE as
well would be correct. No need to capslock, or mention it at all.
- Why to upgrade? Security issues get backported in debain. I DONT want
any new features !
- My distro did a very good service so far. Upstream is doing the
disservice here.
.. but what am I writing, all the arguments already are known & listed
in #918703
So I would suggest to delete the related code at least for testing/unstable.

Are you sure you're looking at the fixed version (5.30-1+deb8u2 from
stable-proposed-updates -- not yet available in stable-updates)?
Because the version you reported the bug against (5.30-1+deb8u1) is
the unfixed version and you seem to not have stable-proposed-updates
in your sources.list.
Regards, Axel

Hi there,
I did not get a popup after boot any more, so I assumed I run the fixed
version ... possible that somebody else working on this machine applied
a different fix a while ago, which only fixed the major problem :F
I just took a try for 5.30-1+deb8u2 from stable-proposed-updates. Yes,
it fixes all issues I mentioned, thanks alot !
Sorry for the trouble & thanks for the hint, issue can be closed.
