Somehow I was able to make the error go away by downgrading the samba
packages to 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2 and running `net usersidlist` again
and then upgrading back to 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u1 again.

My best guess is that winbindd wasn't in a happy state after the
upgrade. 'net cache flush' or similar may have helped.

That is, I think wbcListUsers() returned 0 entries, which causes other
code to think a realloc of length 0 'failed'.

wbinfo -u would probably have failed in a similar way, but with a more
useful error message.

In this case there was no upgrade, just installation and domain join.

`net cache flush` did not help here.

Restarting winbind did not help.

That appears to be correct:

(gdb) n
4965		wbc_status = wbcListUsers(NULL, &num_users, &users);
(gdb)
4966		if (!WBC_ERROR_IS_OK(wbc_status)) {
(gdb) p wbc_status
$1 = WBC_ERR_UNKNOWN_FAILURE
(gdb) p num_users
$2 = 0
(gdb) p users
$3 = (const char **) 0x5555558340d0

`wbinfo -u` returns 0 and does not print anything at all, even with --verbose.

`wbinfo -g` does work though.

Subject: samba: Could not get user/sid list from Windows 2003-Server
Date: Tue, 31 May 2016 13:15:21 +0200
Package: samba
Version: 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2
Followup-For: Bug #820965

Dear Maintainer,

`wbinfo -u` returns 0 and does not print anything at all, even with --verbose.

I think the problem is between Windows 2003 Server and this samba-Packages.
I tested samba 4.2.12 from samba.org and it works with my Windows 2003 SBS-Server
I tested the debian-samba-Package with an Windows 2016-Test-ADS and it woks.
Only teh debian-samba-Package and Windows 2003 would result an empty user list. So the jessie is not ready for work as an member ob Windows 2003-Server.

Bye Daniel

Package: samba
Version: 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2
Followup-For: Bug #820965

Dear Maintainer,

I also had this problem:
`wbinfo -u` returns 0 and does not print anything at all, even with --verbose.
`wbinfo -g` does work though.

I tested different things. The problem is only with debian Packages of samba an Windows 2003-AD.
When I use the samba 4.2.12 from samba.org everthink works fine. When I use an Windows-2016-Test-AD everthink works fine.

I tested samba 4.2 from stable and samba 4.4 from sid. Both versions wbinfo -u don't work with Windows 2003. Also nobody can use file sharings on the samba-Server.

I hope the problem will be fixed. So samba on debian is not ready to work with Windows 2003 Servers.

Bye Daniel

Hi,

I'd like to know if there's any progress on uploading the new
version to jessie-security. Just want to check if the update
would fix https://bugs.debian.org/831851 as well.
