Dear Maintainer,

Since Android upstream stopped shipping Droid fonts and its been
declared that Noto fonts will be superseding the Droid¹² we in
"Debian Fonts Task Force" team decided to drop fonts-droid package.

One of your package blender either
Depends/Recommends/Suggests/Build-Depends on fonts-droid. I kindly
request you to do the switch to fonts-noto instead.

If you are using Fallback variants of Droid fonts, I would like note
that these fonts will still be shipped as part of new
fonts-droid-fallback package.

AFAICS, fonts-noto is lacking monospace variant, which is necessary in my case.
So probably I'll switch to fonts-dejavu.

Cheers.

You can use fonts-droid-fallback, its not yet uploaded but it has
DroidSansMono as is.

I think you can wait till we upload fonts-droid-fallback, and then
depend on it instead of fonts-droid. Let me know what you think of
this.

I don't have any strong opinion on this choice. It's used to render
characters in i18n of the GUI and I kept using the Droid font because this
was/is the one upstream provided as per-default.

If you tell me that fonts-droid-fallback will stay in the archives for some
(long) time, then it could be a good alternative.

Otherwise, DejaVu is good as well.

Cheers.

Can it just use whatever fonts the user has installed already? This is
the way normal programs operate.

Well I hope upstream intends to keep it as is, but I don't know for
sure.

If that suits your need its perfectly fine.

Hi!
I'm afraid that your upload to experimental, despite claiming in the
changelog that it doesn't use the droid font anymore, still has
Depends: fonts-droid. I guess you changed the code without updating
debian/control.

Also, please remove this dependency from unstable soon as well, as this bug
prevents the migration to testing of a bunch of unrelated packages.

Gosh, you're right. Fixing it now on a new revision. Uploading that later
today.

I could work on it next week, but if the IlmBase/OpenEXR transition would
start first, then I could upload the expetimental version to unstable/sid,
dropping the issue.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Cheers.
