Package: tor
Version: 0.2.5.12-1
Severity: minor
Hi
I'd like to switch virtual circuits in some cases.
I can do that interactively using vidalia "New identity" option. So I looked
in the manual how it's done. But tor manual says "using the Tor Control
Protocol (described in control-spec.txt)."
However, there is no such file in Debian. I tried apt-file search.
This file should be added in the package, or the manual should be fixed.

It's unrelated to this specific bug, but if you want to do stuff with
the Tor control protocol, I highly recommend you look at Stem, available
in the python-stem package, and its `tor-prompt` utility:
https://stem.torproject.org/tutorials/down_the_rabbit_hole.html
Running:
$ tor-prompt
SIGNAL NEWNYM
Will do the same as the “New identity” feature of Vidalia.
Another more flexible option is to pass different SOCKS
username/password to get different circuits. This is how the “New
circuit for this site” and per domain circuit isolation is done in Tor
Browser.
(This is the `IsolateSOCKSAuth` option, enabled by default.)
Hope that helps,

The spec files can be found at
https://gitweb.torproject.org/torspec.git/tree/
I agree that maybe the manual should link to that resource.
