Dear Maintainer,
On first boot after install init hangs due to missing symlink
[ 4.904755] systemd [1]: /etc/mtab is not a symlink or not pointing to
/proc/self/mounts. This is not supported anymore. Please replace
/etc/mtab with a symlink to /proc/self/mounts.
[ 4.904755] systemd [1]: Freezing execution.
Was able to get the system working by booting into rescue mode from the
install CD,
mounting the root partion,
moving the current /etc/mtab to /etc/mtab.old and then making the
symlink ln -s /proc/self/mounts /etc/mtab

Thanks for reporting! This has been discussed in another bug report a
few hours ago, and a fix has been pushed to git; I'm uploading a fixed
package in a moment.
If you would have an extra minute or two, quoting the contents of your
mtab.old would be nice, in case somebody wants/needs to know what bit of
d-i touches this file. But that's really a bonus, nothing absolutely
necessary.
Mraw,
KiBi.
