Hi,

lxterminal depends on python-vte / libvte9, which are deprecated in
favor of gir1.2-vte-2.91 / libvte-2.91-0. Thus we want to remove
src:vte from the archive. lxterminal should switch to the new vte
version.

Please try to do this before the Stretch release as we're going to
try to remove src:vte this cycle.

We'll bump this to serious when the list of rdeps is small and we're
getting ready to removing vte completely.

Hello!

I assume https://github.com/lxde/lxterminal is the upstream git
repo and it looks to me like it's been ported to the new vte
long ago, see also:
https://sourceforge.net/p/lxde/patches/493/

Could you please consider investigating if shipping a git snapshot
of the software as the debian package is suitable (or ask your
upstream to cut a release and package that)?
If a snapshot is not suitable, please tell us what the blockers are
and if there's anything we can help out with.

Thank you for a suggestion. While using new libs might be an advantage,
libvte-2.91 uses GTK+ 3.0, while until now lxterminal package was using
GTK+ 2.0 (as well as rest of LXDE components). Switch to GTK+ 3.0 is not
much desirable since LXDE is positioned as a lightweight environment but
GTK+ 3.0 uses much more resources and has more bugs, some of which are
not easy to workaround. Overall, users are negative on switching over
to GTK+ 3.0 after some experience. And even if other applications aren't
taken into consideration (I mean mostly style difference), use just one
application with GTK+ 3.0 while other ones are GTK+ 2.0 may be a waste
(as both GTK+ 2.0 and GTK+ 3.0 will be loaded at the same time).

We do not intend to release Debian 10 "Buster" with src: vte.
Therefore, I am raising the severity of this bug.

lxterminal now offers the option of compiling with gtk3. Please enable
this option.

The old vte 0.28 branch has not had a release since GNOME 3 was
