Subject: gnome-keyring: please introduce a dependency on pinentry-gnome3
Date: Thu, 04 Jun 2015 21:23:27 -0400
Package: gnome-keyring
Version: 3.16.0-2
Severity: wishlist
Control: affects -1 pinentry-gnome3 gnupg-agent

pinentry 0.9.3-2 now produces a pinentry-gnome3 binary that uses gcr
for prompting and has a checkbox to enable the user to cache their
passphrase in the system keyring.

This is part of a larger project to reduce superfluous dependencies on
headless servers that use GnuPG while improving the user experience
for desktop users of GnuPG (see also https://bugs.debian.org/753163
and https://bugs.debian.org/765406).

Thanks for maintaining gnome-keyring in debian!

Regards,

        --kg

MATE uses gnome-keyring, but a dependency on GNOME 3 is not wanted
there. If you're going to depend on a pinentry program, please use
pinentry-gtk2 | pinentry-gnome3. Both have libsecret support, and so
either one is adequate for that purpose.

No, we want pinentry-gnome3 for GNOME, since only that provides a proper
UI/replacement for the builtin prompter.
