Package: php-crypt-cbc
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: serious

[Filled as RC to see it autoremoved from Jessie if nobody disagrees.
Please, do downgrade it or tag it as sid + stretch if you disagree.]

php-crypt-cbc was introduced almost ten years ago as a DTC dependency.
Today, only dtc-common depends on it. dtc is RC-buggy, has not been
shipped in any stable release besides Lenny, and is now only available
from experimental, so I don’t see any reason to keep php-crypt-cbc as
part of our releases either.

Not sure if it’s worth keeping dtc in our archive anyway (no new upload
in almost three years); if it goes away, this package may deserve an RM
too.

David

Thanks for doing these cleanups. However, as these bugs aren't interesting for
people who are looking for RC bugs to fix, I downgraded them for now. Please
file a removal bug (for jessie or unstable, depending on what you think is
best) for them in a few days.

Cheers,

Ivo

I hopped the bug title would have been explicit enough to not mess with
the RC-bug fix effort, at worst the two-line disclaimer on top of the
bug log would have been a click away.

As initially stated, I don’t intend to do so before Jessie gets
released [0]. If someone else shares the view that Jessie shouldn’t get
released with such packages, please file removal bugs in the mean time.

Raising back the severity: if people are actually using or depend on any
of these packages, now may be a good time to say so before they get
removed (in the mean time, that should prevent automatic migration to
testing).

I still intend to follow up with a removal request in a few months if
nobody objects (but feel free to beat me to it).

Subject: Bug#779894: Removed package(s) from unstable
Date: Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:22:48 +0000
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

php-crypt-cbc | 1.0.1-1 | source, all

------------------- Reason -------------------
ROM; PHP 7.0 transition
----------------------------------------------

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 779894@bugs.debian.org.
