Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
* Package name : ipfs
Version : 0.2.3
Upstream Author : Juan Batiz-Benet <juan@benet.ai>
* URL : http://ipfs.io/
* License : MIT (Expat)
Programming Lang: Go
Description : content-addressed global distributed file system
Ipfs is a global, versioned, peer-to-peer filesystem. It combines good
ideas from Git, BitTorrent, Kademlia, SFS, and the Web. It is like a
single bittorrent swarm, exchanging git objects. IPFS provides an
interface as simple as the HTTP web, but with permanence built in. You
can also mount the world at /ipfs.
Ipfs is a really interesting project which can be compared to btsync
(proprietary), telehash or git-annex. I haven't personnally used it
(yet?) but I am very interested in its development. I know that at least
Joeyh has tried it out here:
http://git-annex.branchable.com/devblog/day_262__ipfs/
This specific WNPP would probably involve packaging the go
implementation, which seems the most complete:
https://github.com/jbenet/go-ipfs/
I may try to package it, but I would need help at least to figure out
the go part, of which I am not very familiar with. Ideally, some go team
would pick it up instead of me.

I've no spare work energy to offer here, but I wanted to AOL that having
IPFS(-Go) in Debian would be very nice.
+1
Cheers.

Looks like IPFS requires gx to manage its dependencies... which in turn
uses IPFS. Not sure how to manage that in terms of debian's policies /
having packages manage their own dependencies, but unless there's some way
to shim the dependency on its dependency manager, we'll need gx to build
ipfs.
See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=850862 for wnpp
request for gx

Hi,
archlinux has a go-ipfs package without gx, see
https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/community.git/tree/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=packages/go-ipfs
also from #ipfs on freenode:
<@whyrusleeping> its worth pointing out that gx does not require ipfs
<@whyrusleeping> it can function just fine on its own using https from the gateways

Help is welcomed !
Some of those packages are already in pkg-go salsa repo, but I haven't gotten a chance to work on it since a few months so feel free to pick it back up !
