Package: php5-common
Version: 5.6.5+dfsg-1

Dear PHP5 maintainers,

the latest migration of php5 to Debian jessie unfortunately broke the
complete Horde5 software that is in Debian jessie.

The latest php5 upstream branches (5.5 and 5.6) introduced a severe
regression as discussed at [1].

I am currently test-building a PHP 5.6.5+dfsg-1.1 with that patch
reverted. I will get back to you soon, if that fixes the observed
issue.

Breaking Horde5 means: no communication via IMAP with an MDA (IMAP
server) is possible anymore.

light+love,
Mike

The attached patch against php5 allows Horde to start again.

With that patched php5 version on my Debian jessie system, IMP
(Horde's mail client) seems to work ok again. However, I also see
regressions in Kronolith (calenadaring tool), Turba (address book) and
Nag (task planner). I will investigate this further later today.

Just a short update notice. After having given my Horde instance some
time to "recover" (invalidate cashes and such stuff), the complete
Horde system is back in play and works nicely with my patch 5.6.5.

Please dearly consider reverting my sent-in patch in the current php5
version in jessie/unstable.

Thanks,

It also causes FTBFS on php-guzzlehttp and php-guzzle-stream (test
failure), thanks for ci.debian.net for helping identifying those issues.

It also allows the tests to pass on php-guzzlehttp and

I meant:

 (a) apply my sent-in patch
 (b) which reverts a recent upstream commit

Sorry for being unclear here. I was a bit under stress when my main
communication portal had gone offline due to this php5 issue.

I am sorry for the breakages. The packages with the revert-patch is
building right now (the test take a long time to finish).

~~

Mike and/or PHP Horde maintainers,

would you be willing to help with regression testing for each new PHP
release as part of release process?

Currently we only check the test results for any regressions before
uploading a new PHP version to the stable (wheezy) or testing-in-freeze
(jessie) and doing some basic testing of Horde framework seems like a
good thing to do.

Cheers,
Ondrej

For Debian jessie, I can do this. I don't have a Horde installation on
wheezy, but the one I use personally is on jessie and it has to work
with latest PHP5 releases / hotfixes.

So please, yes, add me to the list for Debian jessie (and probably
jessie+1 when it comes to the next freeze).

Don't worry, you are doing great! Not only in the php5 realm... That's
how things go during a release cycle.

Thanks, I'll keep it mind. JFTR there's 5.6.5-2 in unstable right now
with your patch applied. It would be great if you could confirm it
really fixes this issue.

Thanks! FWIW, php-guzzle-stream [1] already passed it’s own testsuite on
ci.d.n with 5.6.5-2, php-guzzlehttp [2] should follow in about height
hours.

1: http://ci.debian.net/packages/p/php-guzzle-stream/unstable/amd64/
2: http://ci.debian.net/packages/p/php-guzzlehttp/unstable/amd64/

Regards

David

P.-S.: getting in touch with the people running ci.d.n may be worth it
to help track possible regressions in the future (by running a specific
instance of tests with a new PHP version before uploading it to stable).
