Great. I'm no DD so I can't sponsor your package but I can give
comments nonetheless. So, I have following things I don't understand:
- Is there specific need to list libncurses etc. dependencies in
debian/control, should ${shlibs:Depends} take care of that? Or
you want a very specific version? Ncurses is still fairly standard
stuff.
- The zmodem license is interesting as they say "don't distributed
modifications" -> does a patch count as modification? As a sw
developer I would say "yes" but someone else needs to clarify
that. Anyway, if they say "no modifications" and then we find
urgent need to patch zmodem (say, a serious security flaw) then
the options are to remove zmodem or remove whole package? .. is
zmodem still in active development? I remember having used that
after x- and ymodem protocols went out of fashion some ~20 years ago :)
- Good: watch file is present
Bad: according to "uscan --report" it points to no sw version
In addition to that, nothing big plugs my eye. Sw even builds, too bad
my supramodem2400 is out of service so I can't really really try it
out.

I have news, i get contact withe the zmodem.* files author.
So why the package was removed from mentor, is it expired or the
license issue?
I can re-upload the latest version if you need.

Packages are removed from mentors automatically after a period of
inactivity. It has been months since the last upload of syncterm so
probably you hit the limit.

Ok. i have good news! i received good response for the zmodem files owner.
Jacques Mattheij do transfer the copyright to SyncTerm developers.
http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/src/sbbs3/zmodem.c?revision=1.119&view=markuphttp://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/src/sbbs3/zmodem.h?revision=1.54&view=markup
i hope that this notice avoid this copyright issue.
I will working on update the package and re-upload to mentors on few days.

Hi,
> * Initial release (Closes: #739035)
lets try a review:
1) std-version is 3.9.8 now
2) debhelper (>= 9), libncurses5-dev (>= 5.9),
unzip (>= 6.0), libsdl2-dev (>= 2.0.2), libsdl1.2-dev (>= 1.2.15),
gcc (>= 4:4.9)
do you really need both sdl1.2 and sdl2?
do you really need the version constraints for each dependency?
why gcc is listed here?
please drop versions when already satisfied in jessie, or wheezy in case you want to try
a backport-sloppy (I would really avoid that)
3)
Architecture: i386 amd64
Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, libncurses5 (>= 5.9),
libsdl2-2.0-0 (>= 2.0.2), libsdl1.2debian (>= 1.2.15)
why only two architectures? why aren't the runtime dependencies picked up with shlibs:Depends?

remove gcc,
let sdl 1.2 (remove unused sdl2)

this was fixed.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=777651#57
You can check the zmodem.* header file on cvs
http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/src/sbbs3/zmodem.h?revision=1.54&view=markup
Unfortunately, this was after 1.0 release date, and it was made through
my work to contact everyone involved and good response from them.

I think that can parse file by file to fine copyright settings.
i update it, please check,
I want to the package fit the debian legal requeriments, the code is
gpl, lgpl and some files bsd. i think that all are dfsg
The non-dfsg part was cryplib and was removed via patch (the app can be
used without that lib)

check-all-the-things are cool tool! I did not know
I will use now it for every package!
i upload again to mentors:
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/syncterm/syncterm_1.0+dfsg-1.dsc
thanks, I really very apprecited your review.

Hi

oh... no sdl2 ready code?

libsdl1.2 explicit runtime dependency might be "droppable", did you test it?
just do a build, and open the deb file section debian/control
why libsdl1.2 is not picked up?

yes, remove them, repack the source (debian/copyright has a nice Files-Excluded feature)
and drop them from copyright.
and package them separately if not yet in debian (and useful outside this package)

ok, you might package an upstream snapshot, or clarify this in copyright file

ok
let me know how you want to proceed with the above points
