Subject: dmtcp: Please include plugins from the source package
Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2015 03:45:05 -0800
Package: dmtcp
Version: 2.3.1-6
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
Many thanks for your package. I (privately backported and) installed
this version from testing to use dmtcp with the plugins and didn't find
them.
It looks like the plugins in the source archive's contrib/ directory are
not built or installed by any binary package produced by the dmtcp
source package.
A user's workaround would be to download the plugin sources separately and
build them manually for use with this package.
Many thanks and regards,
Afif

Hi Afif,
Sorry for the delay in writing back. We talked about your request.
We're hesitant to package the plugins in the _ contrib/ _ directory,
because those are contributed by various people, and we're not yet
ready to guarantee our normal standards for those plugins.
So, at this stage, I'm afraid the best that we can recommend is what
you suggested:
> A user's workaround would be to download the plugin sources separately and
> build them manually for use with this package.
However, please do continue to communicate to us with suggestions.
The feedback is quite valuable for us.
Best wishes,
- Gene

No problem. Thanks for considering

You might alternatively consider doing what the git package does with
its own contrib directory. It puts them in /usr/share/doc/git/contrib
and /usr/share/git-core/contrib, treating them somewhat like example
code. It's not ideal, but it does make them available to the user.

Anyway, thanks for clearing up the situation and thanks also for this
package.

Afif
