Dear Maintainer,
thank you for maintaining X and Nouveau driver in Debian.
On my Optimus laptop, the nVidia card is no more listed:
$ xrandr --listproviders

although present
$ lspci|grep NVIDIA

It used to get listed by xrandr few weeks ago, (as in [1]) but I cannot
recall when it stopped,
as launching programs with 'DRI_PRIME=1' failsafe using Intel card.
As in [2], I checked and found no xorg.conf, no nouveau blacklisting in
/etc/modprobe.d/, no NVDIA driver installed.
Also, there's no bumblebee installation, as in [3].
As you can see in Xorg.0.log 21.061 line, Nvidia GPU gets 'removed' for
some unknown reason.

A month ago the X server was upgraded from 1.15 to 1.16, that would seem
the most obvious candidate. The nouveau driver has not seen any source
uploads for nine months.

First, I noticed that on some boot xrandr --listproviders output only the Intel integrated card, else it lists two cards, the Intel and a "modesetting" one. As your advise, I asked on #nouveau ([1] from 06:39 to 07:45), got pointed to two patches, which I've just tried. First patch [2] results in xrandr listing only Intel card (dmesg and Xorg log attached). Did some experiments in the meanwhile: launching from usb, live versions of ubuntu 14.04 AND debian live (this last self-built on my laptop, so including same kernel/X/nouveau versions as in the installed system) showed nvidia card working. So, this is not a bug: will fix this reinstalling Debian (if you know softer ways to reset graphic configuration, when xorg.conf is absent, please let me know), probably will find enough time in a month or so... :( Sorry for wasted time, Sven, and thank you for maintaining Nouveau in Debian! Sorry for the spam: obviously I got, only after closing bug, idea of googling without restricting to nvidia cards. So found [1], which looks pretty similar, except it's a radeon-related bug. Also, reporter suggests restarting Xorg gets his Radeon discrete card to be discovered by 'xrandr --listproviders', which I just tested doing the same on my system. So I'm now able to use DRI_PRIME with nouveau driver on my setup! :) Hereby, I reopen the bug, which is now about the Nvidia card not being recognised by Xorg on first start: feel free to reassign it to xorg-server, if you think it appropriate...
