Dear Maintainer,

new VTK version 6.1 is already in archive. We are planning to
switch all dependent on VTK 5 packages to this new version
to escape dependencies on older unsupported VTK.

Thanks,

Anton

Hi Anton,

first of all: thanks for the patch and sorry for the ridiculously long
time it took me to respond.

I tried to build the package with your patch, but it fails. VTK6 seems
to pull in Qt5 dependencies that it does not seem to resolve properly.
Linking the main binary fails like this:

Linking CXX executable ../../bin/fslview
cd /home/mih/debian/fsl/fslview/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/src/fslview && /usr/bin/cmake -E cmake_link_script CMakeFiles/fslview.dir/link.txt --verbose=1
<snip>
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lQt5::Widgets
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

As FSLView itself relies on Qt4, I think that Qt5 dependency should be
resolved by VTK6. I hope that mixing Qt versions is a more fundamental
problem, as switching to Qt5 seems infeasible at this point. Qwt
(another dependencies) also depends on Qt4 in its latest version in
Debian.

Subject: vtk6 patch compiles and links cleanly on Gentoo
Date: Mon, 20 Apr 2015 16:21:34 +0200
Dear all,

I'd just like to mention that neuro-debian fslview sources together
with the debian/patches/vtk6.patch compile and link cleanly on a
Gentoo system with VTK 6.1 installed. There seems to be nothing that
pulls in Qt5 in my setup, but maybe this is because I'm just using the
sources but not a Debian build environment.

Best regards,

Volkmar

Just for the record. I still fail to compile this package with vtk6.
VTK6.1 shows the previous Qt5 linker resolution issue. VTK6.1 fails due
to some MOC incompatibility, ala:

VTK6 is compiled only against Qt5 already (6.2 version in sid already).
So the fslview need to be ported if it really uses Qt-VTK bindings.

Hi,

I looked into converting fslview to Qt5, but that doesn't seem to be an
option. QWT is a build-dependency, but the latest version 6 is not yet
available for Qt5. That seems to be a blocker right now.

Hi,

since QWT now supports qt5 (libqwt-qt5-dev) I had a shot at this, but
alas, the code still requires QT3 compatibility and since QT5 doesn't
provide this, it doesn't compile:

Followup-For: Bug #749531

FYI, I just requested RM of the binary packages, see #821372
to unblock de-crufting of vtk.

As soon as this bug is fixed, the removed archs will automatically pick up
again.

So, now this is the LAST package that is blocking vtk5 removal.

There are great possibilities that I'm going to ask FTP master to break
the package by forcing its vtk5, if this doesn't get fixed soon.
