Subject: Dependency on osmgpsmap
Date: Fri, 16 May 2014 21:24:45 +0200
Package: subsurface
Version: 4.0.3-2

Hi,

I have started working in the Debian GIS Team on the osm-gps-map package.

At the moment, both the old library and the new library of osmgpsmap are
being provided due to subsurface depending on the old one (also for
building). It seems that subsurface is the only package left in testing
that needs it.

After checking the subsurface upstream repositories to see if they were
working on switching to the new osmgpsmap (which is gtk3 instead of
gtkt2), it looks as if they have already switched to QT and no longer
list osmgpsmap as a required dependency in any of the README/INSTALL
documentation.

I see that the latest subsurface has been imported into Alioth ready for
packaging. When you begin work on that, could you check whether the
dependency on osmgpsmap is still actually required?

Regards,

Ross

Hi,

It has been a couple of months now, and this issue is preventing
osmgpsmap from migrating to testing. Therefore I am raising the severity
to important.

I have just tested that I can build subsurface 4.0.3 with
libosmgpsmap-dev removed from d/control (see attached patch) and with
libosmgpsmap2 removed. Subsurface then installs fine and I can rotate
and scroll the "globe" and view an imported dive location on the map.

Unfortunately, when I tried building the new version of subsurface that
has been imported and pushed to alioth (4.1), the build failed with the
vanilla "dh" in d/rules and I did not try to investigate further (I have
no experience with qmake/cmake).

If you are really busy, would you be opposed to an NMU to allow
osmgpsmap through to testing? I would have to seek sponsorship, so it
won't be that fast anyway.

Alternatively, with a little help and guidance I could try and package
the latest version.

Regards,

Ross

Hi,

On the advice of the release team, I am bumping this bug to serious.
Then I will prepare an NMU to remove osmgpsmap as a dependency for
subsurface, so that subsurface does not get affected by the transition.

Thanks for your work (as pkg-running team member, I leave priority to
Sylvestre Ledru, who is probably busy elsewhere...which explains why
nothing happened with that issue).

I included the NMU changes to our git repository and tagged the
release, so please push the NMU the DELAYED/0......or let's just wait
for 5 days...:-)

Well, I am surprised... I didn't receive any email from the BTS and it
is the first time that I see about this bug.

Anyway, thanks for the upload. Just upload it now.
(and please commit the change in the vcs if you can)
