I use cinnamon 2.0 desktop build from source on Debian Jessie. Whenever I add
russian (or any other) keybord layout in cinnamon-settings I get the following
error in /var/log/messages:

cinnamon-settin[4149]: segfault at 9 ip 00007fe7b43dac53 sp 00007fff87067a18
error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3800.2[7fe7b4376000+fe000]

error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3800.2[7ff8f4e47000+fe000]

Also, buttons and menus in my system instantly become ugly, just like in
1990th. It's difficult to explain, looks like some gtk features were disabled.
Nevertheless, keybord layouts work as intended.
In order to restore nice look I have to turn off all keybord layouts apart from
the English (default) and relogin to cinnamon.

I've just gave a try to the latest version of libglib2.0-0 from
'experimental' distribution. Unfortunately, behaviour is the same.

Please in future report crashes against the application that is crashing
(cinnamon-settings in this crash). The maintainer will reassign if appropriate.

A crash in side glib doesn't mean it's a glib bug. Most likely it isn't. Please
get a backtrace for the crash and send it to this bug report.

Regards,
Emilio

Hello!

Can't help but wonder why you file this against glib, when it's cinnamon
crashing.
Anyway, cinnamon is in known bad shape..... I'm reassigning
your bug report so that anyone who wants to work on improving
the cinnamon package can find it.

Please, pardon me for my mistake. Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems to me
cinnamon-settings does not crash, it works perfectly well even after
buttons and menus become ugly.
Here is the backtrace, hope this helps.

Subject: Can you try with the cinnamon version from experimental?
Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2014 23:16:10 +0200
Hi!

You reported a bug related to Cinnamon 2.0, but when you reported it, cinnamon
2.0 was not present in Debian, so I assume you had downloaded it from somewhere
else.

I have tried your reproduction case with my version of cinnamon and I haven't
been able to reproduce it.

Could you please try the version of cinnamon available from experimental and
confirm if this bug doesn't happen any more for you?

Marga

Hello Margarita!

I've been using cinnamon 2.2 for a while. I built it from source on Jessie
and it is flawless. Hence I believe it was some bug in older version of
cinnamon.
Of course I can try package from Experimental for some time if needed, yet
it seems to be pointless since neither I nor you can reproduce the bug in
cinnaon 2.2.

Thank you for your contribution. Cinnamon is a great desktop, it's really
nice to see latest version in Debian.

I can't reproduce it with cinnamon from experimental running on my
jessie setup.

Guess it can be closed...
