I can confirm that this is still the case with version 3.3.1-2 of the
xbase package. Not only is the window placed too far to the right, it is
also placed too far down when you are pushing against the top border of
the screen.
I suggest that this bug is forwarded to the XFree86 team.

Remco, could do me a small favor and re-confirm this for XFree85 3.3.2?
If it's still around, I promise I will forward it upstream. Quickly.

Yes, it's still there. If you place a window with the middle mouse button,
it is not placed where you want it but a bit too far down and to the
right. I tested this with both Ian's .twmrc and the default system.twmrc
that comes with Debian. If you place the window with the left mouse
button, nothing is wrong.
I also noticed that with Ian's setup, but NOT with the default setup, this
also happens when resizing a window using ANY button. The only way in
Ian's setup to get a window to resize is to press the right mouse button
on the title bar and choose 'resize'. No matter what button you press to
set the new size for the window, it is always shifted down and to the
right a bit.
I normally don't use twm and I don't know much about its configuration, so
I don't know what causes these things.
Ian, can you please comment on this (provided this e-mail address is stil
valid and you get this message)?

I can't reproduce this problem at all using XFree86 3.3.1 and 3.3.2 twm binaries,
using plain XFree86 system.twmrc (which doesn't allow moving windows with
middle/right mouse button btw -- system.twmrc attached) and not with
Ian's twmrc below. any more details to force this problem ?
don't know about the debian default system.twmrc...

I can see the shift when resizing with Ian's setup, but it doesn't happen
for plain system.twmrc
Ian's setup allows resizing with Shift+Button2 on window title bars too (look
for f.resize). here the shifting does not happen.
playing a bit more, I added f.resize to a global menu (the Utilities menu for ease)
and using that option, the shifting doesn't show up either.
it only seems to occur when using f.resize in the _window_menu_. strange...

I have used twm for a _long_ time until recently and never seen any such problems
with my own (pretty standard) twm settings.
