Workaround: install and then purge php5-gd.
One notes also this error message

Undefined subroutine &conffile::abs_path called at /usr/bin/ucfq line 529, <HASH> line 29.

Dan, you really have to consult your bugreports with other people before
blindly filling them. You have filled yet-another-useless bugreport.
Also please use the bug severities according to their real severity (for
you that means please fill everything with NORMAL severity).
The grave severity: "makes the package in question unusable or mostly so,
or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the
accounts of users who use the package."
If you fill yet another useless bugreport, I will just start to close your
bugreports by default without taking any action.

I didn't realize that it was still waiting for input after the error
message, so thought it had died.
I can't reproduce it either, except for the message,
