Package: postgresql-9.1
Version: 9.1.9-1
Severity: important

Hello,

I have my /var/log stored on ramdisk/tmpfs so that everytime I reboot, my logs
get wiped Normally that isn't a problem, but for postgresql, it is as
postgresql will not start automatically after reboot..

Aya:/home/david# /etc/init.d/postgresql start
[FAIL] Starting PostgreSQL 9.1 database server: main[....] Error: Could not
create log file /var/log/postgresql/postgresql-9.1-main.log ... failed!
 failed!
Aya:/home/david# mkdir /var/log/postgresql
Aya:/home/david# /etc/init.d/postgresql start
[ ok ] Starting PostgreSQL 9.1 database server: main.
Aya:/home/david#

So everytime I reboot, I need to make a directory for postgres to store it's
log files, not fun!

Hi,

thanks for the report.

This was already fixed in the postgresql-common version in
experimental. As wheezy is close to the release, we won't make changes
to the package in there anymore, so this will unfortunately remain
unfixed there.

As a wheezy user, you can install the package from experimental to get
the fix, or install it from apt.postgresql.org.

For a hotfix, you can edit /etc/init.d/postgresql to add a mkdir call.

(Fwiw, /var/log is not among the directories that strictly need to
support being on volatile storage (see /var/run), so this problem
isn't an FHS/policy violation.)
