Thanks for filing this.  Upstream doesn't include documentation or
installation rules for these, so splitting into two bugs to track work
on each separately.

Please consider applying the attached patch to the next git upload. It
adds git-remote-hg support to git through the use of a git-hg package. I
tried to follow the style of the recent git-bzr package; feel free to
make any changes as required.

I just noticed I inadvertently sent a version in which I had disabled
the testsuite for faster debuilds.

Please apply this version instead.

As of v2.0.0-rc4, upstream has removed git-remote-hg and git-remote-bzr 
from contrib.  They are now maintained in independent repositories.

Yep.  Marking so.

I'm happy to sponsor once a package is ready.  The main missing bit is
registering git-remote-hg through the alternatives system to avoid
having to conflict with other hg remote helpers.

Agreed but I think it would be best to have the transitional package
built from the git source package. Having different versions for
different binary packages created from the same source package is
possible but it is very confusing.

I did the packaging and then sent upstream the patches I produced. They
weren't happy with some of the changes and did some of them in different
ways. I haven't yet had time to rebase the patches to the latest
upstream git repo. I have a lot on my plate so I don't know when I will
get to this. If you would like to take over packaging or maintaining
git-remote-hg or git-remote-bzr I would be happy to sponsor you.

I've attached the packaging I did for git-remote-bzr, it will probably
work for git-remote-hg too with just s/bzr/hg/. I've also attached the
patches I sent upstream for git-remote-hg.

I have adapted Sven Joachim's git-remote-bzr packaging for git-remote-hg
and pushed the package to mentors.d.n [1], as well as collab-maint [2].
Jonathan, you had mentioned that you were happy to co-maintain [3] so
I've added you as an Uploader.
