Package: gnome-session
Version: 3.4.2.1-3
Severity: important

Hi,

default graphical install with d-i wheezy beta4 with CD#1 and no
network, Gnome starts up in fallback mode (vesa...), and one gets
the "warning, fallback mode" notification. That one is badly
positioned on the screen, and others apparently suffer from the
same issue.

I'm attaching two screenshots.

Mraw,
KiBi.

Re-assigning to notification-daemon, since that component is responsible
for displaying the notification in fallback mode.

I guess we could somehow work-around that problem by reformatting the
translations for ../gnome-session/gsm-manager.c:1397
and shorten the lines. This would be really ugly though and should be
fixed in notification-daemon, proper.

I've noticed that Gnome popups appear truncated/cut off on the right
hand side of the screen

For an incoming video call, this means I can see the `Answer' option but
`Answer with video' is obscured

This is a regression in Debian wheezy and makes empathy very awkward to
work with unfortunately

Today I tried a 3.8 kernel and I noticed that this problem with

I can reproduce this bug on Wheezy, Wheezy + current sid's 3.14.5-1
kernel, and on current sid (where it gets even worse, as
notification-daemon crashes: #747465).

Might it be that this bug depends on the hardware, and how it's
supported by xorg + KMS drivers?

FTR, only commits in upstream Git since 0.7.6 are l10n and
metadata updates.

Cheers,

A patch was proposed upstream [1], and I've confirmed it fixes the
problem for me (once the patch proposed to fix #747465 is applied too,
otherwise notification-daemon crashes before it has the chance to
expose this other kind of buggy behavior).

If any of the maintainers, or anyone else more versed than me in
C/Glib code, was kind enough to have a look at that patch to check it
doesn't do anything scary, I would be glad to NMU with these two
patches (for #747465 and #693837) applied.

(I don't care *that* much, since all my usecases, including Tails,
will be migrated to GNOME Shell on Jessie, but still, thinking of the
broader Debian users community, it would be good to provide
a not-too-crappy UX on GNOME Flashback on Jessie :)

Please find attached a diff against current Vcs-Svn, that imports the
patches proposed on the upstream Bugzilla to fix #747465 and #693837.
I've built the resulting source tree with svn-buildpackage, and
successfully tested on current sid.

Should I go ahead and NMU? (I realize that no upstream developer has
ACK'd these patches yet, so it would be great if someone who's
C-literate could take a look first.)

Also raising severity of #747465, as proposed in June and a week ago.
