Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Due to lack of time and interest in maintaining this package, I request
an adopter for the aiccu package.

I still use aiccu from time to time, but I'm not able to invest
energy in it for the time being, so it's better not to pretend I'm
still maintaining it.

The package description is:
This client configures IPv6 connectivity without having to
manually configure interfaces etc. A SixXS account or an account
of another supported tunnel broker and at least one tunnel are
required. These can be freely requested from the SixXS website
at no cost. For more information about SixXS check their homepage.

Hi,

We (SixXS), who are heavy Debian users ourselves for years and more
importantly for this, the authors of aiccu, are very willing to take
over the packaging details and bug tracking & resolving portions for aiccu.

We are in the process of finalizing the long long overdue of minor fixes
but more importantly a lot of new features for AICCU that have been
added since the last release and pushing our full repo to:
 https://github.com/SixXS/aiccu

to make the AICCU development process a lot more open and transparent by
making use of the various features that github offers (git repo, bug
tracker, patch integration etc).

From that repo we'll be releasing new versions of AICCU and the (Debian)
packages associated with it. We'll also push these to mentors.debian.net
so that those changes can directly be integrated into Debian and Ubuntu
by a mentor who is willing to accept them.

Greets,
 Jeroen

Hi,

To maintain a package, you must follow a set of step as described in this
link [1]

However, if you want, I could help you to maintain the package for debían,
I'm not a DD but I have been packing for a long time. We could do it
together because in debian, A package can have multiple maintainers :)

Daniel, aiccu has Debian packaging information in the upstream (SixXS,
our) source archives since it's inception and first releases[1], as
well, we are heavy Debian users ourselves for a too long time, thus we
know how to package things quite well ;)

We also where informed that several DD's are very willing to mentor
uploads of aiccu into Debian thus thanks for the offer, but that base is
also covered.

Thus the "only" (ahem, it is not that easy) thing to do now is to
finalize the next aiccu version, go again through all the bug trackers
to see what is left and resolve those matters and then to test it on all
platforms, push it to github as we have stated and release the next version.

Greets,
 Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

as a regular user of aiccu (and a DD) I will be happy to take over
maintenance of the aiccu package.

I will also be happy to place you guys from upstream into the
Uploaders: field and train people from Sixxs in Debian packaging (and
the distro workflow) if there is the need.

I will in short copy the packaging Git to
git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/aiccu.git.

Please create yourself an account on alioth.debian.org and apply for
team membership in the collab-maint group. We will then be able to
work together on the packaging Git.

The uploads I will be happy to perform whenever there is a new version
of aiccu and the package is in proper shape.

I guess having a DD as maintainer is preferred to going via
mentors.debian.net and the d-m ML.

Greets,
Mike

There would be no need for that, as we know how Debian packaging works,
noting that we have been 'playing' with Debian since 1.2 era (heck, I
have a p200 which was upgraded from there to the current unstable ;) and
that the original Debian packaging was performed by us, and then
extended to support the debconf support by Gary Coady which we
integrated into that packaging and then somewhere along the way it
finally ended up in Debian.

Please also see the note in the very bug referenced by your email:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=692465#10

We still intend to do that and given some free time will come around to
doing that including a full push of that work out to
https://github.com/SixXS/aiccu but this all in due time, real life and
work has to come first.

Greets,
 Jeroen

Ack. Good to hear.

Yes, noted.

Here I'd like to step in. I highly recommend sticking to the
git-buildpackage workflow here. This means having two independent Git
repositories. The first is the upstream Git project of aiccu (e.g. on
Github). Upstream releases are done in this repos and tagged properly.
The second repos is the Debian packaging repos. It imports your
upstream releases (via uscan --force-download --rename and a proper
watch file pointing to the upstream tags of aiccu on Github).

The packaging achievements can in regular intervals be adapted on the
upstream repos (if you like to ship the /debian folder upstream).

Mixing upstream development and debian packaging turns aiccu into some
sort of a native package which I do disrecommend, as it mixes two
workflows (upstream, downstream) that should IMHO stay separate.

I have a slightly updated version in

  git://github.com/barak/aiccu.git

Barring objections I will upload it to a delayed queue.

I would warmly welcome co-maintainers.
(The easiest way to do this would be to just send a pull request with
yourself added to Uploaders: in debian/control.)

The main pending issues as I see them:

 - proper integration into "network manager", right now it comes up but
the gnome icon stays "three dots" instead of "UP!"

 - any tweaks needed for systemd integration.

 - sixxs now allows username/tunnel as the user id, with the ability to
set a per-tunnel password. The could be integrated.

 - when there is more than one tunnel available, it is not always
properly set in aiccu.conf, requiring manual editing.
