Some active menu items are grayed out. They are still selectable, but 
it's a bit confusing.

You can reporduce it by selecting a File, and then try to choose 'Edit / 
Cut' from the menu.

Subject: Affects the right-click context menu as well

When I copy-paste or cut-paste stuff using Nautilus, the same thing
happens. 'Paste' option is grayed out but still works. It took me a
long time to figure out it works after wondering whether I actually
did a cut/copy or not.
