Subject: dkms: dh_dkms generated broken postinst scripts (causes install failure)
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2012 15:21:21 +0200
Package: dkms
Version: 2.2.0.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

today I upgraded the open-vm-dkms to a newer version released yesterday. It
tried to rebuild new kernel modules, which failed (no I don't have the exact
error message, the putty session is already gone). The following code in the
postinst looks weird to me:

<snip>
#!/bin/sh
set -e
# Automatically added by dh_dkms
# The original file can be found in template-dkms-mkdeb/debian/postinst
# in the DKMS tarball, check it for copyright notices.

DKMS_NAME=open-vm-tools
DKMS_PACKAGE_NAME=$DKMS_NAME-dkms
DKMS_VERSION=#MODULE_VERSION#
<snap>

--> The DKMS_VERSION has no senseful value.

The fact that DKMS_PACKAGE_NAME has no senseful value either might be a bug in
open-vm-dkms, it would be nice if you could confirm this.

Regards,
  Hilmar
