Subject: virtualbox-guest-x11: 3d acceleration broken
Date: Fri, 18 May 2012 18:46:11 +0100
Package: virtualbox-guest-x11
Version: 4.1.14-dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Version 4.1.14 of the extensions break 3d acceleration. I'm running
4.1.14 on Windows 7 64-bit with a Radeon HD 4890.
The normal diagnostic tools such as glxinfo complain that they can't get
a visual. More complex programs such as anything that uses clutter
simply segfaults. This makes many GTK programs unusable.

You say you are running version 4.1.14 of the guest extensions but the package
list says 4.1.12.
Which one is correct?

Since this last minute RC bug blocked the X.org transition from
happening, I've flagged virtualbox for removal from testing. Once
versioning info is sorted out (ie. if that wasn't actually a regression
from testing), or once a fix is available, virtualbox should come back
into testing on its own with no need for manual intervention.
Feel free to contact me anyway, if you have questions or need actions.

KiBi.

severity 673437 important
thanks
I can't reproduce the bug, downgrading the severity.
Please attach some more information to the bug.
For example
- /var/log/Xorg.log.0
- Full output of glxinfo
- Output of "modinfo vboxvideo"
- Host VirtualBox log
Thanks,
Felix

Unfortunately it was too late for the BTS→release.debian.org RC bugs
export (it happened already), so that couldn't be taken into account for
this run (I checked through a dry run right before 10:00Z), so I let the
removal happen as initially announced.

Back into testing with tonight's run:

I would like to confirm that after the Xorg update to 2:1.12.1-2 Debian Wheezy's Gnome 3D did not work anymore in Virtualbox. Fallback mode is activated since.
Going back to the snapshot taken BEFORE the update took place showed the Gnome 3 panel again

Do you have libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.2 (from unstable) installed? I found
that upgrading to this version of the package, then restarting X solved
the bug.

Updating libgl1-mesa-dri to version 8.0.2-2 from Sid did fix the issue
for me - thanks for the hint.
Conclusion is that X.Org X Server 1.12 should require a newer version in
Wheezy.

I can confirm this bug with virtualbox on Windows 7 host and Debian
guest (fresh wheezy install). The virtualbox version is 4.0.12 (for USB
comptibility reasons), while guest additions version is 4.1.14.
The bug would prevent major applications from starting (evolution,
empathy, etc would segfault at start) even in fallback gnome.
Updating libgl1-mesa-dri to version 8.0.2-2 from Sid fixed the issue for
me too.
I'm really grateful for the tip ;)
