Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When creating an ogg file from an mp4 file I encounter the message 'Can't locate object method "clear_comments" via package "Ogg::Vorbis::Header::PurePerl" at /usr/bin/pacpl line 2301.'

The command I issued is 'pacpl -t ogg --oggqual 7 file.mp4' and the error appears at the end of conversion. A temporary WAV file is left in the directory along with a working OGG file.

Hello

pacpl stops when calling clear_comments method [1]. This method is
provided by Ogg::Vorbis::Header but not by Ogg::Vorbis::Header::PurePerl

libogg-vorbis-header-perl was removed from debian (#594447) quite recently.
(Looks like Ogg::Vorbis::Header::PurePerl is not a drop-in replacement for
Ogg::Vorbis::Header :-/ )

arename project did replace Ogg::Vorbis::Header with Audio::Scan [2]. But such
a change should be done upstream by pacpl author.

Philip, what to you think ? Are you still maintaining pacpl ?

All the best

Hello

[ I've cc'ed debian bts and debian-perl list to keep track of the issue ]

I've looked very quickly. Audio::Scan only provides a read-only interface, so
it's probably not enough :-/

Debian will freeze next month to prepare next release. If pacpl is released
after the freeze, it will be harder to update it in Debian.

The post-freeze alternative is to hack current version of pacpl just enough to
make it work (i.e. something like removing the call to clear_comments).

All the best

Yes, there was a bug (dup syscall yields fd leak), an unmaintained upstream
and (apparently) available replacement.

The details are explained in this bug report:

Hello,

I just installed PACPL 5.0.1 from the git repository… and this solves the
problem.

Maybe a good incentive to package this new release ;-)

Cheers
