Hi,

right now, libicu48 has not yet been transitions to multi-arch. On the
other hand, it provides both 32bit and 64bit versions of the library, so
there is a clear need for co-installation of versions for different
architectures. Please consider enabling multi-arch according to the
multi-arch specificatioin at
http://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch/Implementation. I can't provide a
patch, since the build system of icu is too involved for me.

Taking care of this is definitely on my to-do list, and it was on the
list of things I mentioned would need to be done in an earlier request
for adoption I made (and then retracted) for this package.  I just
haven't had the time to figure out how to do it, including how to
cleanly transition from the lib32* libraries to multiarch.  To be
honest, I was sort of hoping maybe someone would submit a patch.  In any
case, I will eventually get to it one way or another, but it may be a
while before I can find the time.  Anyway, thanks for the bug report.
I'll leave it open until I get around to taking care of it.
