Package: libasound2
Version: 1.0.25-2
Hello,
upgrading libasound2 to 1.0.25-2 leads to stuttering audio when playing
TV via xawtv (3.102-3) and xawtv continuously reporting
ALSA lib pcm.c:7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred
while reading from hw:1,0 (32KHz Bt87x Digital capture device of a Bt878
TV card, driven by snd_bt87x).
Downgrading to 1.0.24.1-4 solves this issue.
Furthermore in conjunction with pulseaudio I noticed with 1.0.25-2
alsamixer shows the normal card0 mixers while with 1.0.24.1-4 it did
show the PulseAudio mixer. I don't know if those both symptoms are
connected. According to changelog.Debian the latter could be
intentional, but IMHO libasound2 should then break old/current
pulseaudio versions to enforce coordinated upgrades.
If you think those both issues should be treated separately, please feel
free to clone this bug.
Thanks for your work & best regards
Mario

After pulseaudio upgrading to 1.1-3 and a reboot meanwhile, the issue
seems to be gone.
So, this finally looks like a plain configuration issue triggered by
unclean dependencies. Hence I'll leave this bug open - if you don't like
to tighten the dependencies, feel free to just close it.
Btw... with libasound2 1.0.25-2 and pulseaudio 1.1-3 alsactl, alsamixer
etc. start complaining:
ALSA lib conf.c:1220:(parse_def) show is not a compound
ALSA lib conf.c:1686:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:24:26:Unexpected char
ALSA lib conf.c:3406:(config_file_open) /usr/share/alsa/pulse-alsa.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it
However, this is probably more a pulseaudio issue than a libasound one,
even if the contents of the alsa-configs shipped with pulseaudio didn't
really change...
best regards

This issue seems to be finally gone with pulseaudio 2.0-1.
While it did still occur from time to time up to pulseaudio 1.1-3.2, I
did not notice any occurence since pulseaudio 2.0-1.
Hence, I'm closing this bug.
Probably it has/had something to do with pulseaudio
commit 8ea6b0585e802490d160814b61d0165b875e0a84
Revert "resamplers: Optimize trivial resampler"
This causes problems with 24kHz audio (results
in echoing) when upscaling to 44.1kHz or 48kHz.
but that's just a wild guess.
