As per Policy 10.1, "any binaries created should include debugging
information, as well as being compiled with optimization".
Binaries built by file are neither built with optimization nor they
include debugging information (even when built with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip).

Followup-For: Bug #659355
Hi,
The lack of optimization can be felt when running Lintian on large
source packages (e.g. eclipse-cdt[1]). When rebuilding 5.11-1 with
-O2 it reduces the runtime with 20-25% on amd64 (~40 -> 30~ seconds).
So, I, for one, would greatly appreciate if file could get
recompiled with optimization.
I had a brief look at the patch in #653481 and by the looks of it, it
should fix this bug if applied.

Hi,
This appears to have been fixed in 5.11-2 (checking the amd64 build log
shows several -O2 flags), but it wasn't mentioned in the changelog.
Anyhow, closing as fixed.
