Package: roundcube
Version: 0.7-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
did an aptitude safe-upgrade which upgraded php5-* to 5.3.9-1
* What was the outcome of this action?
roundcube couln't connect to the sqlite database
because sqlite.so isn't included anymore.

Well, I can't really see what I could do. The bug should be against
php5-sqlite which does not ship SQLite 2 support anymore. Let's transfer
this bug.
For php5-sqlite maintainer: Roundcube needs SQLite 2 support. It does
not support SQLite 3. Is it possible to add back SQLite support in
php5-sqlite?

sorry, but not a chance. sqlite(2) is 6 years overdue and unmaintained upstream.
And it is my opinion it should be removed from wheezy completely and php5-sqlite
was one of the obstacles.
Also we will ship php5-5.4.x in wheezy where upstream had removed sqlite
extension as well. So it doesn't really make sense to
I could add Breaks: roundcube header to the php5-sqlite package, but I would
need a version number where it will be fixed, so I can add versioned dependency.
Roundcube has to deal with the fact it's using 6 years old unmaintained code.
I am sorry I cannot help you, but we just could not drag old code just because
few stuborn reverse dependencies.
O.

Hi,
While the above is true and I agree with it, I think the solution lays
elsewhere.
from the roundcube packages, roundcube-sqlite is the package that depends
on sqlite and php-mdb2-driver-sqlite which depends directly on php5-sqlte.
The php-mdb2-driver-sqlite hasn't been updated in debia for the last two
and a half years, in that time its upstream have added sqlite3 and
pdo_sqlite support, see http://pear.php.net/package/MDB2/download/2.4.1 (we
have 1.5.0b2).
I think this bug should be reassign to it, and its upgrade should let
roundcube to work with updated sqlite versions.

OK, I reassign the bug to roundcube then. I didn't know that sqlite2 was
not supported any more for such a long time.

We could update php-mdb2-driver-sqlite but Roundcube explicitely says
that sqlite 3.x is not supported (in INSTALL).

I have reassigned and raised the priority. Unless someone comes with
some patch to make Roundcube compatible with SQLite 3.x, this means that
support for SQLite will just be dropped.

You are correct. I'm not holding out hope that this gets fixed anytime soon,
although I am going to file a bug with upstream. It looks like in the meantime
I am going to have to migrate all of my current installations to roundcube-
mysql.
I also raised the severity level to grave as this is more appropriate for this
situation given that the package is completely unusable.

Thanks. The answer from Alec leave little hope for a solution before the
next Debian release. I will have to drop roundcube-sqlite package (I
cannot just Depends on earlier versions of php5 package since it would
block the migration to testing).
