Hi,
We were recompiling amsn as a part of the gssdp/gupnp transition and
it failed to build on several architectures.

Package: amsn
Followup-For: Bug #653131
Hi Niels,
First of all, I am sorry for the delay in answering to your report.
I cannot reproduce this FTBFS when compiling aMSN with pbuilder. I'd like to add
that after reading the report¹ which refers to the transition, I have also
updated the Build-Depends field from libgupnp-1.0-dev to libgupnp-av-1.0-dev.
Then I compiled again (in Pbuilder), and it was successful.
Now, I'm thinking in uploading this new revision with the updated Build-Depends
field to see if it will fail or not. If it fails, then I think that it would be
needed to Build-Depends on autoconf and then call autoreconf from debian/rules
at build time.
Regards,
PS. I'll proceed in a couple of hours. If you think I have missed something,
please do not hesitate to tell me before I upload.

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hello!
I've looked briefly at the amsn build failure and it looks to me like
when the build failed, "make configure" got triggered when it was not
supposed to.
It seems the cause for this might be because the patches modifying
both configure and configure.ac might cause the latter to (sometimes)
get a newer modification date.
A couple of different possible solutions have been thrown in the air:
a/ touch configure in debian/rules before running $(MAKE)
b/ add a patch that disables the configure rebuilding rule in Makefile
c/ adding build-dependencies for autoreconf and making sure it runs
every time (before configure runs!)
If this was my own package I'd update the packaging to use dh and use the
new dh_autoreconf helper to handle updating stuff rather then manually
patching configure. (ie. an elaborated version of c/)
In case I need to NMU amsn to avoid it blocking the gssdp/gupnp transition
further I'd likely go for option b/, which I think is more obvious and less
error prone then a/.
Would be great to get any input on this... otherwise I guess a NMU with
option b/ will be the way forward soon.

May I ask why?
I've only looked very quickly but it seems all the package uses is
gupnp-igd .... neither gupnp or gupnp-av seems to be used at all.
(Atleast configure only seems to check for gupnp-igd...)

Don't use pbuilder, try with touch configure.ac && debian/rules build.

Thanks for this hint. I'll test it right now.
