[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.0.2-5
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,

I can use gnome-fallback, while if I choose the "gnome" session in gdm,
the desktop I see is unusable. If I click on Activity I can't see
anything, and I can't see the vertical bars either. What's the problem?

Kindly,
Davide Governale.

What kind of graphics hardware do you have? What driver do you use?

Can you attach a screenshot of your desktop and attach your Xorg.0.log and
~/.xsession-errors please.

Michael

The attached .xsession-errors file doesn't look like the correct one, as you
have started the fallback mode there (gnome-panel and notification-daemon etc).
Please attach the one after starting gnome-shell. You probably need to switch to
ALT+F1 and make a copy of this file before you start the fallback mode again.
regarding screenshot: do you have a smartphone or camera? that would help too.

My guess is, that it is related to the proprietary nvidia kernel driver.

Michael

What version of xserver-xorg-core do you use?
In case its 1.11.x, could you try dowgrading to 1.10.x (from
snapshot.debian.org or squeeze-backports, see instructions in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=642757#73 ) or 1.7.x
(stable)? There are currently problems with the cooperation of nvidia and
xserver 1.11.

That is a 1.11 prerelease, so please try a again with a real 1.10 (e.g.
1.10.4, nothing with .99. in its number) :-)

Thanks, in this case this is not a duplicate of #642757.

Please report this to the nvidia forum (or add extra information in case
someone has the same problem) following NVIDIAs bug reporting instructions:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678
There is not much we can do about the non-free driver ourselves.
Please post the URL of a corresponding forum thread to this Debian bug,
so that others may follow progress.

Thanks

Andreas

Cheers,
Thomas
