Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "Antoine Beaupré" <anarcat@koumbit.org>
* Package name : drush-make
Version : 2.3
Upstream Author : Dmitri Gaskin
* URL : https://drupal.org/project/drush_make
* License : GPL2+
Programming Lang: PHP
Description : drupal source code deployment tool
Drush make is an extension to drush that can create a ready-to-use
drupal site, pulling sources from various locations. It does this by
parsing a flat text file (similar to a drupal .info file) and
downloading the sources it describes. In practical terms, this means
that it is possible to distribute a complicated Drupal distribution as
a single text file.
Among drush make's capabilities are:
* Downloading Drupal core, as well as contrib modules from
drupal.org.
* Checking code out from CVS, SVN, git, and bzr repositories.
* Getting plain .tar.gz and .zip files (particularly useful for
libraries that can not be distributed directly with drupal core or
modules).
* Fetching and applying patches.
* Fetching modules, themes, and installation profiles, but also
external libraries.
* Drush make does not turn modules on automatically: it only
assembles Drupal directories -- it does not touch any database.

Hi,
I've been working on this today, and appear to have a working .deb. This is
my first Debian packaging though, so I've been working through the "Debian
New Maintainers' Guide". I'm not convinced I've done this properly, so I'd
appreciate a review, and some guidance.
This package basically just requires dropping some files in place, so I did
all that with an 'install' file, and so didn't put anything in 'rules'. I
*think* I've registered the various docs in the right places, but I haven't
completed the man page yet. I'm also not sure about whether to just include
just the principal developer in the 'copyright' file, or also add the
various other maintainers and contributors.
Anyway, let's just say it's a work in progress. I've posted this up on
github (https://github.com/ergonlogic/drush-make/tree/debian/debian) for
now, pending potentially moving it over to the main Drush Make repo at
http://drupalcode.org/project/drush_make.git.
Thanks in advance for your input, C

Hello again,
I've run Lintian on the generated .deb, and then cleaned up the resulting
warnings and errors. It now passes (silently).
I spun up a local repo (using reprepro) and tested installing it through
apt-get, and everything appears to work fine.
I've found that I now have a patch generated by running 'dpkg-buildpackage
-us -uc', but it's the reverse of what I would have expected:
--- drush-make-2.3.orig/drush_make.drush.inc
+++ drush-make-2.3/drush_make.drush.inc

}
function drush_make_version() {
- return '2.0-dev';
+ return '2.3';
}
I might have repackaged things incorrectly... anyway, I'm not too sure how
to manage the 'upstream' git repo yet.

Hi again,
I've begun work on a manpage for the drush-make command, but it occurs to me
that Drush Make also has a specific file-format. So, I believe I'll also
need to create a drush-make(5) manpage to document it.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello,
I fixed up the manpage quite a bit, and I believe it's acceptable now. I
looked for inspiration in some section 5 manpages to see about adding one
for the makefile format, but I haven't been able to find a good example. So,
I've just pointed to the README.txt and EXAMPLE.make files from within the
manpage. I'm not sure that this is kosher, but it seems a lot easier than
trying to keep two sets of docs (in very different formats) in sync.
I signed it with my gpg key this time during `dpkg-buildpackage`, and
Lintian continues not to complain about anything. I've been including the
various generated files, along with the orig.tar.gz, but I'm not sure this
is necessary. As usual, I'm pushing my updates to
https://github.com/ergonlogic/drush-make.
As far as I can tell, this package is ready to go. So I'll probably need
feedback from someone with some actual experience at this, if I'm going to
be able to improve it any further.
Best regards, C

Seeing as how there appears to be an active push to include Drush Make into
Drush core, I believe this issue has become redundant.

This may not happen in Drush 4, I think the packaging is still a good idea.

Hi,
I have uploaded a modified version of the package to
http://debian.aegirproject.org/ - i think this is ready for deployment,
but it's still in the unstable repository for now.
The summary of my changes can be seen here:
http://drupalcode.org/project/drush_make.git/shortlog/7126988
I am waiting for my NM application to go through (or a sponsor) before
uploading this to debian itself.
