Dear Maintainer,

the graphical gdmsetup configuration tool should allow tweaking the options
in
/usr/share/gdm/greeter-config/* files. These include:

/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename (through a file open dialog)
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_options (through a list)
/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme (through a list)
/desktop/gnome/interface/icon_theme (through a list)
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/logo_icon_name (through a list)
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/cursor_theme (through a list)
/desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds (through a checkbox)
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/banner_message_enable (through a checkbox)
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/banner_message_text (through a text box)
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_restart_buttons (through a checkbox)
/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list (through a checkbox)
/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager (through a checkbox)
/apps/gnome-power-manager/ui/icon_policy (through a checkbox)

and possibly save the settings to a file like /usr/share/gdm/greeter-
config/99z_gdmsetup (99z to be almost sure that it will be parsed *after*
the
other greeter config files). The tool could parse the other greeter config
files on first run, in order to generate the default template for
99z_gdmsetup.

For now these settings are only accessible by manually editing the greeter
config
files, which is not very user-friendly (at least for a *graphical* login
screen...).

Should I forward the request upstream?

gdmsetup no longer exists so I'm closing this particular bug. See
https://bugs.debian.org/825977 which is a request for the GNOME
Settings app to allow configuring login screen settings.
