Hi,

Could you package the new upstream version of euca2ools?
I'm missing some features with euca-register command.

In particular, I would like to register an AMI with an EBS root device.
euca2ools 1.3 doesn't have an --snapshot flag to do this, but
I noticed a euca2ools package in Ubuntu with 2.0.0~bzr464-0ubuntu1 version
with this feature.

Thanks,

BTW, I could help with this if you don't have a problem.
I like to file bugs with patches. :)

Dear Miguel,

euca2ools version 2.0.0 is not yet released (notice the ~bzr464 part in the
version number, that makes it inferior to 2.0.0), so I am worried to not be
able to keep up with the changes and the bug fixes. But with your help,
why not uploading packages in the experimental section of the Debian archive ?

This said, I just noticed that euca2ools 2.0.0 needs python-boto 2.0, which is
not yet in Debian. I asked its maintainer what he would think about update in
http://bugs.debian.org/638931 (I do not know if it brings incompatibilities
with other packages using it). Now we have a good reason to wait before
updating euca2ools ;)

Have a nice day,

Yes, I'm aware that 2.0.0 is not released yet since is still in development.
I also noticed the recent upload of 1.3, so I just considered that option,
why not upload development snapshots of euca2ools to experimental?

If you are OK with that I'll try to debianize the work done in Ubuntu in
order to upload it to Debian while this code and their dependencies
stabilize.

Maybe I can convince/help Eric to also upload python-boto 2.0 to experimental
as well.

As extra comment, it would be nice if Debian and Ubuntu could coordinate
to avoid effort duplication in this area.

That would be great ! I would be also pleased to use a more recent version of
euca2ools.

What's the status of this bugreport? v2.0.3 seems to be available
upstream and the blocking bug #638931 seems to be resolved nowadays.

Hi Michael,

I think that 2.0.3 is a eucalyptus version number. As far as I can
see, euca2ools is still at version 1.3.1.

I see, you're right. I confused eucalyptus + euca2ools. :)

Actually, Ubuntu has a pre-release of the 2.0 version of euca2ools in its
bzr repository, so I prefer the bug to stay open. Personally, I do not have
enough skill and knowledge to follow an unrelased version, but if you or
somebody elese who knows what he is doing wants to follow Ubuntu's version,
that may be useful to many. It could for instance ve uploaded to experimental
so that consequences of breakages are limited.

Cheers,

I think we have upstream reasonably close to us, so I am confident to have a steady stream of updates with us for the future. Experimental could be somthing worthwhile to investigate, but we would want such experiments for Squeeze as well. This is beyond what we have time for, I think, but upstream has all that, I am sure.

Upstream, i.e. Brian, now uses the regular Debian source code repositories to keep pkg-java packages compatible. I am not completely sure atm that we have reached the state that Debian packages are fully identical to what Eucalyptus offers for Debian directly. If not, this should happen soon. And when this is reached, maybe for experimental bits we should just refer to the repositories at Eucalyptus.

Best,

Steffen
