From this link, the following snippet seems like the relevant problem
("no library found for -lgcrypt"):

-------------
   dh_auto_configure
Note (probably harmless): No library found for -lgcrypt
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
'CREATE_PACKLIST' is not a known MakeMaker parameter name.
Note (probably harmless): No library found for -lgcrypt
Writing Makefile for Crypt::GCrypt
   dh_auto_build
-------------

so the GCrypt.so created doesn't link to libgcrypt.so :/

I'm not able to currently reproduce this on my own system, though, nor
in a cowbuilder instance.

I believe it's related libgcrypt being moved to the multiarch location,
while older versions of perl don't know where to find it.

i note that perl 5.12.4-2 contains the following notes in its changelog:

-------------
 * debian/config.over: Force the multiarch directory /usr/lib/<triplet>
   into $Config{libpth} even if doesn't exist yet. This should guarantee
   that ExtUtils::Embed works on multiarch enabled system even when
   the package isn't built on one. Thanks to Jonathan Nieder.
   (Closes: #630399)
-------------

So i'm marking #634598 as done, now that 5.12.4-2 is available. Feel
free to re-open it if you run into the same problem again.

Thanks for the report,

Hi!

  libcrypt-gcrypt-perl still FTBFS due to testsuite errors on hurd-i386
kfreebsd-amd64 mips(el) powerpc and s390. It's also still claiming "("no

at least for the kfreebsd builds perl >> 5.12.4-2 was used.

Subject: Perl transition blockers: candidates for testing removal
Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2011 18:25:16 +0100
Hi

The following packages block the perl transition and will become testing
removal candidates soon unless the bugs get fixed:

* ifeffit (#648839)
* uwsgi (#640347)
* libdbd-interbase-perl (#648857)
* libcrypt-gcrypt-perl (#634598)
* prima (#628500)
* nginx (#649061)
* libsignatures-perl (#636132)
* libpgplot-perl (#648842)

* libtokyocabinet-perl (#649060): maybe mipsel binary should be removed?
* genders (#646286): patch ready, maybe NMU?
* openscap (#649063): maintainer said he would upload today
* libdbd-sybase-perl (#629255): maintainer, this is your ping

* openldap (#649062): won't be removed, please help fixing it!!!

Progress can be seen on the transition tracker page [1]. Currently it
looks worse than the above as some builds (mainly powerpc) are not
uploaded yet.

Cheers

Luk

I'm sorry, i can't replicate this ftbfs on powerpc (and i don't have
access to the other architectures). On my powerpc sid machine, i get a
clean build of 1.25-1 against perl 5.14.2-4 and libgcrypt11 1.5.0-3, and
the buildd's all look fine here with the exception of hurd-i386:

 https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=libcrypt%2dgcrypt%2dperl

I'm hoping to get access to a hurd machine to try to replicate the
problem.

the failed hurd log shows something that looks suspiciously like a
multi-arch failure (maybe a failure to find and dynamically load
/lib/i386-hurd-gnu/libgcrypt.so.11):
