Version: 2.7.11-2
Severity: important
Hi!
As silc-toolkit is currently orphaned, security support is probably
far from optimal.
For this reason, I think it would probably be a good idea to drop SILC
support from pidgin until SILC libraries gets either removed or properly
maintained.
Cheers,

libsilc is still in Lenny and Squeeze, and security updates will be
done if any issue appears.
But if no one steps up to do that for Wheezy, it should get removed from
Debian. If SILC support gets removed from Pidgin, someone might need it
badly enough to volunteer, that's why I am not filling a removal request
right now.

I'm afraid I don't agree with this logic. If many people use SILC
support and I remove it, I'm going to have to deal with the complaints,
and I'd prefer not to use Pidgin as a tool to get people to volunteer
for some other package.

Should I ask ftpmasters to remove libsilc now, then?
(Unfortunately, you might still get complaints from Pidgin users…)

Yes, if you think that would be better than keeping it in. At least then
when I remove it from Pidgin, I'll have a legitimate reason.
