This issue does not affect root user
The completion fails when tab is pressed
bash adds a space after the directory name instead
of a space.
Example :
cat /hom<tab>
grep -r "test" /us<tab>
the directory name appears but a space is added in the end instead of /

Would you please check if you have /etc/bash_completion.d/acroread.sh ?
