thanks

Hello, I have the same issue and also libicu44 installed (BTW, NEWS.Debian states: "Versions of ICU newer than 4.2 name the static libraries compatibly with shared libraries so building with static ICU libraries doesn't require special build code anymore. In versions prior to 4.2, the static libraries had an extra "s" in their names. For details, see http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/6332", could it be related?).

As result, prelink cronjob ends with "Prelink failed with return value 134" and this has, IMHO, a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone, hence the change of severity.
I'm not exactly what 134 return value implies but I guess it's never good when a piece of software like prelink does an incomplete job.

I have added some logging to collect more info and it sure looks like it is
something wrong with files being processed.

The patch:

          if (i < firstbss2)
            j = get_relocated_mem (info, ndso, s->u.ent->base + s->value,

So there is no matching record in depndencies array, but more interestingly
'/usr/bin/aptitude-curses' is a weird value for soname field.

Have no idea about ELF structures so it's up to someone more knowlegeable to
investigate.

Though the patch makes it go to the next file to my surprise so it is a
workaround as well :)

prelink.bin: ../../src/conflict.c:763: prelink_build_conflicts: Assertion `j < ndeps' failed.

This assert fail is triggered by the following files:

/usr/bin/inkscape from inkscape_0.48.1-2.1+b1_i386

For now, I've blacklisted all of these (and maybe you could do it in
the default packaging?), but a fix that would at least harmlessly skip
the files rather than crashing would be appreciated.

Hello All,

does anybody knows whereabouts of package maintainer?
It sure looks unsupported.

Emailing Andre did nothing for me :(.

BTW prelink is actually developed http://people.redhat.com/jakub/prelink/prelink-0.4.6-2.bz739460.el6.src.rpm as of 2011-10-12.

For my opinion it is _very_ bad sign for debian if such long periods of unmaintained state remain unnoticed by DM team.

Package: prelink
Version: 0.0.20090925-1
Followup-For: Bug #620630

I went through the tedious process of re-trying prelinking without listing
any of the individual binaries in the attached /etc/prelink.conf.

If adding binaries one by one and rerunning prelink -av, I would get to
a stage where prelink would exit with the only message "Aborted" or without
any message whatsoever, and one would need to re-run prelink with -avf to
successfully complete.

It appears that prelink needs more diagnostic output as well as not aborting
simply because an individual binary can't be prelinked.

Subject: Need more diagnostics

This bug should be severity serious or grave IMO. The
package doesn't work and there is no real roadmap to
help the user try and get it to work. I tried adding
every library and binary to the blacklist as they
come caused a forced prelink to choke, but it seems
never ending and when I tried to do 'prelink -avf'
as noted by the previous poster, I got almost no output
or indication of any progress:

Laying out 706 libraries in virtual address space 41000000-50000000
prelink: Could not find virtual address slot
for /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglibmm-2.4.so.1

Indeed, no '/etc/prelink.cache' was created. Adding the '-R'
flag only produced an additional message about the
base address:

Random base 0x418b2000

but no prelinking was done. I'll give it a
couple of more tries and then I'm done.

Incredible looks like this is fixed in 0.0.20130503-1!

Cheers, Geoffrey!
Tons of thanks :)

Not sure which patch resolved it.
