Package: linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-686
Version: 2.6.32-31
Severity: important
Booting linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-686 via hypervisor gets hanging (several)
init scripts. This seems to "workaround" with generating input on stdin when
the init script hangs. Video of bootup is also available[1].
I attached the dmesg booted via hypervisor (xen.dmesg) and same maschine
without hypervisor (dmesg). I also attached some grub config.
Even after boot there seems some trouble, cause update-grub with booted
hypervisor needs 25 seconds to run vs. 7,4 seconds without hypervisor.
Thanks and with kind regards, Jan.

It looks like “max_cstate=1″ did fix the problem for me. It also appeared
recently on the Linux power management list[1]. In the next day I will also
try "hpet=disable" and give feedback.
With kind regards, Jan.

Okay .... "hpet=disable" seems not to work, while "cpuidle=off" did work also
quite well instead of “max_cstate=1″.
With kind regards, Jan.

I experienced the same on a recent HP DL108 G6 with linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-
amd64. :(
Even with “max_cstate=1" it seems to have slowness on disc access compared to
running without hypervisor, but thats just empirical.
With kind regards, Jan.

Version: 3.4.1-1~experimental.1+rm
Debian 6.0 Long Term Support has now ended, and the 'linux-2.6' source
package will no longer be updated. This bug is being closed on the
assumption that it does not affect the kernel versions in newer Debian
releases.
If you can still reproduce this bug in a newer release, please reopen
the bug report and reassign it to 'src:linux' and the affected version
of the package. You can find the package version for the running
kernel by running:
uname -v
or the versions of all installed kernel packages by running:
dpkg -l 'linux-image-[34]*' | grep ^.i
and looking at the third column.
I apologise that we weren't able to provide a specific resolution for
this bug.
Ben.
