Package: nis
Version: 3.5-2
When I explicitly specify a NIS server in /etc/yp.conf ypbind cannot
bind to it. It does not matter whether the server is in /etc/hosts or
not. This behaviour is also observed on another machine of the same
type (sparc-unknown-linux-gnu), but not on some other hosts
(i686-pc-linux-gnu), all running Debian 2.1, Linux 2.2.14.
When I don't specify anything in /etc/yp.conf and lets ypbind default
to broadcast it finds the server fine, irrespectively of whether the
server is listed in /etc/hosts or not.
This might not be a new problem; I have never tried to specify the NIS
server explicitly on this machine type before.

I cannot reproduce this. On all my slink and potato systems
specifying one or more hosts in /etc/yp.conf works just fine.
Can you try again with the latest version from potato ?

I can no longer reproduce this bug on Debian 3.0, Linux 2.2.25. I
