Subject: linux-image-2.6-686: Thinkpad T60 cannot suspend nor hibernate any more
Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2011 11:04:17 -0500
Package: linux-image-2.6-686
Version: 2.6.32+28
Severity: important

As the subject explains, ever since my last reboot yesterday, I can't suspend
nor hibernate my T60, which is very inconvenient.

More specifically, when I try to suspend, the machine goes to sleep OK, but the
resume fails (the sleep-led is turned off, the CDROM makes the usual noise, and
then the machine just freezes with no sign of life (keyboard unresponsive,
ethernet unresponsive)).
For hibernate, the problem happens earlier: the machine never gets to shutdown.
Since the text-console is "all black" I can't see what it says.

I've seen this kind of problem in the 2.5.36-trunk-686 and 2.6.37-trunk-686
kernels (my SSD is impatiently waiting for them, since I use LVM), but
2.6.32-5-686 was rock solid until today.

I'm not sure if the 2.6.32-5-686 package has changed since last time I booted
it and was able to suspend (which was soon after 2.6.36-trunk-686 was uploaded
to experimental), and I suspect the problem may have to do with changes in X11
as well (mostly unsubstantiated gut-feeling, but also because I noticed when
logging-in that the log-in sequence has changed and now flashes the screen and
if the mode was re-set).

I understand this is not much data to work with, but I can't remember which
kind of data can be useful to track down this kind of problem.

- List of modules you're using (lsmod)
- List of devices (lspci, lsusb)

Try to work out where the suspend/resume fails, using instructions in
<http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt>.

Ben.

With the latest 2.6.32-5-686 kernel it now works again, thank you
very much.
